The Asian Business Association of Wyndham (ABAWyn) was founded by Councillor Larry Zhao, who envisioned a platform that would unite the Asian community and foster a thriving business environment in Wyndham. Councillor Larry’s passion for community development and business growth led to the establishment of ABAWyn in 2018.
Councillor Larry Zhao is not only the founder and president of ABAWyn but also a dedicated community leader. His journey in Wyndham began with a desire to address the challenges faced by the Asian community in the area. Recognizing the need for a cohesive community and a prosperous business environment, Councillor Larry organized a non-profit team to provide services to local residents and businesses.
During the pandemic, Councillor Larry played a pivotal role in setting up community groups across Point Cook, Truganina/Tarneit, Williams Landing, and Sanctuary Lakes. These groups helped deliver meals to the elderly and distributed masks, showcasing Councillor Larry’s commitment to community welfare.
Councillor Larry’s leadership extends beyond ABAWyn. He was recently elected as a councillor for the Williams Landing Ward in Wyndham City, further solidifying his role as a bridge between local potential and global perspectives.
Dear Members and Partners,
As Chair of the Asian Business Association of Wyndham, I am proud to reflect on the growth and success that ABAWyn has achieved since its inception in 2018. Our association has flourished, establishing itself as a pivotal force in promoting local culture, sports, and business development through an array of significant events and partnerships.
With the steadfast support from our local Council, the Victorian State Government, and the Federal Government, we have successfully navigated the post-COVID landscape to enter a phase of rapid development. This expansion is not just local but spans across Victoria and even nationally, with an eye towards international collaboration. In the past year alone, our active participation in and hosting of major events like the Australia Day, Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese New Year, and the Dragon Boat Festival have significantly contributed to the multicultural mosaic of our community.
Looking ahead, ABAWyn has high aspirations. We aim to deepen our impact in promoting cultural exchanges, driving economic growth, and fostering the prosperity of diverse cultures
As we embark on this exciting new chapter, I invite each of you to engage with us, leverage the opportunities ABAWyn offers, and help us shape a vibrant and inclusive community. Together, we will continue to make strides in making Wyndham a beacon of multicultural success and business excellence.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our shared vision.
Warm regards,
Larry Zhao
